This is the first time I’m writing something in this journal, but I think it’s about time I shared one major thought of mine with the world and find out who out there agrees with me.
Today I experienced something that sadly reinforced the opinion I have of humans and society: They do not care about the well-being of strangers! They look away!

The situation was as follows: I met a friend in the streets I haven’t seen in a while and so we stood there and chatted. Near us there was a blind man who asked for help in finding directions. Unfortunately I didn’t know the café he was looking for, but at least I could tell him how to get to the street it was supposed to be on. He thanked me and wandered off.
I carried on chatting with my friend when I suddenly noticed that about 20 meters away from us the blind man tried to cross a street, not knowing that the lights were red because he was standing too far away from the ticking boxes that tell blind people whether they can cross or not. So this guy was walking into almost certain death as the street was very busy! He stepped on the road with one foot and an approaching car managed to turn so it didn’t hit him. The people around him didn’t react and the blind man still didn’t notice he couldn’t cross the street safely. This was the point where I reacted and I ran towards him and stopped him from crossing the street. Now I’m asking myself: Why was I the only one who reacted, even though I stood considerably farther away from him than a lot of other people? Was I really the only one who didn’t want him to die? There even was a guy who was standing 2 metres away from him eating something and watching him as if he just WAITED for him to be killed by a car!
I just can’t believe how cruel people must be to happily watch another person die!
It’s not like people would have endangered themselves by trying to save him. It was not hard.

And remember: There is no such thing as an innocent bystander!
